How Jessica Henwick Kept Colleen Wing’s MCU Prospects Alive

New DVD release

This article contains slight spoilers for HAWKEYE and SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME. As Jessica Henwick rides momentum from a performance in The Matrix Resurrections as blue-haired plot-catalyst character Bugs, one would think that her 2018-wrapped role as the sword-swinging cage-fighting Netflix Marvel character, Colleen Wing, is far back in her rearview mirror. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in the midst of a shakeup on that front, as box office smash Spider-Man: No Way Home and Disney+ TV series Hawkeye demonstrated to resounding enthusiasm. Yet, it seems that Henwick’s renewed chances for a return as Colleen are mostly attributed to…

Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 6 Easter Eggs & References

New DVD release

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 6. With “Stormy Weather,” Star Trek: Discovery celebrates the Trek tradition of getting some excellent musical standards into the bold voyages in the final frontier. With Picard, it was a call back to “Blue Skies,” but now, we’ve got a new version of the song made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, “Stormy Weather.” This version is sung by actress Annabelle Wallis, who has voiced “Zora” the intelligent DISCO computer since 2018’s Short Treks episode, “Calypso.” The newest Discovery episode obviously references that story a lot but what else? From galactic…

New DVD release

The following contains Star Trek: Discovery spoilers Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 6 Star Trek: Discovery literally goes where no one has gone before in “Stormy Weather,” journeying into the subspace rift left behind by the DMA to try and suss out more information about what it is and how it works, in the hopes that such information might point them toward who created it. Instead, the Discovery and her crew all end up almost being eaten by some sort of inexplicable dark void that the DMA apparently leaves in its wake, and it’s only through some old-fashioned Earth…

Being The Ricardos: Aaron Sorkin and J.K. Simmons On TV’s Greatest Couple

New DVD release

Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons has very vivid memories of watching the classic TV sitcom I Love Lucy when he was a child. “I can’t say I remember the first time I saw it,” he recalls. “But as I’ve said before, I’m the only cast member who was born when I Love Lucy was still on the air, the original series. I think I was born during Season 4 and absolutely grew up on it. It was on my parents’ crappy little black and white TV when I was a preschooler and in elementary school. And of course the show’s never…

Why We Never Got Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Spin-Offs

New DVD release

This article contains Spider-Man: No Way Home spoilers. On another Earth, somewhere in the countless strands of reality in the multiverse, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 opened in theaters on June 10, 2016. The film would have followed 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and might well have marked the end of both Andrew Garfield’s tenure in the suit and director Marc Webb’s behind the camera. But while Garfield and Webb did both exit the Spider-Man franchise–at least until now for Garfield–it was instead the prior film that proved to be both men’s swan song. As for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, despite…

There are plenty of questions to be answered in The Matrix Resurrections and many of its big mysteries are addressed head on. But there may be a few things that may not be so clear about the movie’s plot that need further explanation. Link Tank: The Hellboy Sequel We Never Got To See

New DVD release

Nightmare Alley star Ron Perlman reflects on the third Hellboy movie he never got to make with Guillermo Del Toro. “‘We met over some Indian food. We started with dessert, which is how I like to start, and we both realized we were bros.’ But Del Toro had an agenda. He was putting together his first feature film (Cronos, a vampire-inspired Mexican independent drama). After coming across Perlman’s work while researching prosthetic makeup artists, he sought out the actor for a starring role based on ‘a bunch of work that I actually thought nobody had seen,’ Perlman humbly recalls over…

But few attempt to earnestly delve into the reasons behind the devotion held by the millions-strong, multi-generational global fanbase. With The Rise of Bangtan: A Fan-Made Documentary Series, one BTS fan, who also happens to be a professional editor, is attempting to do just that—and she’s absolutely nailing it. The Best Seinfeld Holiday Moments … Besides Festivus

New DVD release

Seinfeld’s classic anti-holiday episode “The Strike” has been re-gifted so many times it is almost as annoying as the holiday itself. We’re taking a strike from Festivus, because that non-holiday was only one of the many moments Jerry and the gang destroyed festivities in ways black and white cookies could never fix. Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), George (Jason Alexander), and Kramer (Michael Richards), have soiled baptisms, weddings, anniversaries, Thanksgiving dinners, Puerto Rican Day marches, and even Super Bowl parties, which gave birth to the very phrase “re-gifting.” They’ve mugged old ladies for chocolate babkas, punctured the Woody Woodpecker…

Aaron Sorkin: ‘I Don’t Use Twitter as My Casting Director’

New DVD release

It seems that no movie escapes some sort of controversy these days and Aaron Sorkin’s Being the Ricardos is no exception. The writer-director’s semi-biographical take on one turbulent week in the lives of legendary entertainers Lucille Ball and her husband Desi Arnaz as they produce an episode of I Love Lucy was in the barrel almost from the start due to Sorkin’s casting choices. Originally set to star Cate Blanchett as the iconic Ball, Being the Ricardos went through a lengthy development process that resulted in Blanchett having to step away. Sorkin cast Nicole Kidman as Ball and Javier Bardem…

Hawkeye Finale Ending Explained: The Rolex Watch, Kingpin, and More!

New DVD release

This article contains spoilers for Hawkeye episode 6 and wider speculation about the future of the MCU. Hawkeye has finally wrapped up and it certainly ended its juggling act with a flourish. The series had so much going on that some would argue that too much was on its plate. Not only were there so many subplots weaving through each other, but the show brought in Yelena Belova from Black Widow and the Kingpin from Daredevil as the mystery villain and used them as closure instead of just giving them some cameos and hinting towards their next MCU appearances. Between…

Hawkeye Episode 6 Finale Review: Bird on the Wire

New DVD release

This article contains spoilers for Marvel’s Hawkeye Episode 6 With 2021 grinding to a halt, Marvel Studios had one final gift to offer fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the form of its Hawkeye finale on Disney+. The episode, entitled “So This Is Christmas”, leans into the lyrics of the John Lennon song it appears to be referencing and hopes that the fighting will stop, and that the war will be over. “What have you done?” seems to have been a little out of the show’s reach, but we’ll get to that. Yes, the war against Thanos may have…

Matthew Vaughn on Finding The Man Who Would Be King’s Man

New DVD release

Matthew Vaughn loves watching The Man Who Would Be King (1975). It’s easy to see why. The John Huston adaptation of a Rudyard Kipling yarn is one of the best adventure films ever made, not least of all because Huston and his co-screenwriter Gladys Hill were able to quietly insert some anti-imperialist critiques into the story of Danny and Peachy (Sean Connery and Michael Caine), two former British sergeants in 19th century India who turn soldiers of fortune and, eventually, men who might call themselves living gods. It doesn’t end well for either, and yet there is something so adroit…

How Spider-Man 4 Could Introduce Hobgoblin

New DVD release

This article contains SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME spoilers. “Peter, I promise you, I won’t turn into a supervillain and try to kill you.” That Spider-Man: No Way Home line by Peter Parker’s pal, Ned Leeds, was a red flag waved to comic-savvy moviegoers about the character’s potentially villainous future as the Hobgoblin. However, it bolsters an idea that has become comics’ equivalent of the Mandela Effect, falsely implying that Ned Leeds was the real Hobgoblin. Yet, the character’s complicated comic history seems destined to inspire consequential connections for Ned in Spider-Man 4, which is already confirmed to be the first…

PS5 vs. Xbox Series X/S vs. Nintendo Switch – Which Console Won 2021?

New DVD release

While the first full year of the Xbox Series X vs. PS5 vs. Nintendo Switch console war was impacted by delays, shortages, and other detrimental factors largely outside of anyone’s control, 2021 ended up being a surprisingly good year for games that still offered an early look at how the battle between the next-gen consoles is going to play out. Which next-gen console “won” 2021, though? Well, that question is obviously somewhat subjective and largely based on a year that was anything but typical, but as 2021 comes to a close, now certainly seems to be the time to declare…

The Matrix Resurrections Review: Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus Reloaded

New DVD release

No two Matrix movies are alike. We remember the original as a revolutionary cyberpunk action film that introduced audiences to “bullet time” and the “wire fu” action sequences of the East. But The Matrix sequels weren’t just more of the same: The Matrix Reloaded is in many ways a superhero fantasy with the kind of CG spectacle we take for granted in the Marvel age. Meanwhile, The Matrix Revolutions could best be described as a manga and anime-inspired mecha horror movie, an absolutely twisted conclusion to the story that feels like the Wachowskis’ answer to the equally controversial The End…
