The Vampire Lestat Trailer Could Not Have Picked a More Perfect Soundtrack

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
Lestat’s rock star era is officially here. Two years and a title change later, the third season of Interview with the Vampire, now rebranded as The Vampire Lestat in honor of the second novel in Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series, is almost upon us, and if the trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to be a suitably wild ride.  Featuring star Sam Reid in all his David Bowie-esque glory, the vibes, unsurprisingly, are immaculate. Where the Louis-focused Interview with the Vampire reflected that character’s more somber, melancholy, and frequently guilt-ridden approach to telling his own story, Lestat’s take…

10 Comic Book Villains Who Deserve Their Own Movie

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
The age of heroes has ended. Now it’s time to bring on the bad guys. The upcoming Clayface movie is just the latest example of supervillains getting the spotlight. Not only did Clayface’s fellow Arkham inmate the Joker get two feature films, but Lex Luthor will be the co-lead of the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, and Doctor Doom will drive Avengers: Doomsday. On the small screen, Loki and Penguin carried their own shows, and Kingpin is the co-lead of Daredevil: Born Again. Impressive as this list certainly is, studios have only begun to scratch the surface of interesting supervillains.…

Clayface Brings the Horror Genre to Superhero Movies

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
Almost by definition, superhero movies are about hope and goodness. Even when things get dark for guys like Batman or the Punisher, their respective films end on notes of redemption. The Hulk may roar and Wolverine may growl, but eventually, the real baddies are defeated and the innocents are saved. Not so with Clayface, the latest entry in the DCU. The first trailer for the adaptation of the classic Batman villain doesn’t reveal much about the film’s plot but it does make sure we understand the tone. Clayface will be a horror movie, complete with sharp music stings, plenty of…

Coyote vs. Acme Trailer Mocks Warner Bros. Tax Write-Offs

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
You’d think that Warner Bros. would know more about things exploding in your face. For more than 75 years, the studio has been producing cartoons about Wile E. Coyote, the genius scavenger whose plots to catch the Roadrunner are thwarted by faulty contraptions from the Acme Corporation. And yet, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav decided to shelve the completed movie Coyote vs. Acme because he thought a tax write-off would be more profitable than any box office revenue it could generate. Yet, thanks to fan outcry and the efforts of distributor Ketchup Entertainment, Coyote vs. Acme will finally see the…

Stranger Things: Freddy Krueger Actor Returns to Hawkins, But as a New Character

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
Stranger Things owes a lot to ’80s horror. There’s the Stephen King font used by the titles, the heavy use of synths on the score, and a scary monster who represents the sins of generations past. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have paid that debt in several ways, including by casting Robert Englund, Freddy Krueger himself, as Victor Creel, father of the boy who would become Vecna. With the animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, the Duffers are paying back that debt twice by bringing Englund back as a new character. According to a release in EW, Englund will…

“If You’re a Dreamer, You Better Be a Doer”: Inside Netflix’s New Lainey Wilson Documentary

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
Even if you aren’t a country, it’s decent odds you’ve heard of Lainey Wilson: a Grammy-winning country artist who has also racked up 16 Academy of Country Music Awards and nine Country Music Association Awards, including Entertainer of the Year in 2023 and 2025. Taylor Sheridan even created a role specifically for her on the final season of Yellowstone, casting her as a love interest for Ryan (Ian Bohen), who mirrored Wilson’s own signature style and even performed several of her own songs.  But now, thanks to the forthcoming Netflix documentary, Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool, everyone’s about to find…

Project Hail Mary Throws Oscars Curveball with Surprise Contender

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
Pretty much everyone agrees that making Rocky’s voice that of his lead puppeteer, James Ortiz, was absolutely the right decision. Though Project Hail Mary makes a point of trying out different voices for the alien before settling on Ortiz, even Meryl Streep isn’t the right fit for the plucky Eridian, who pulls out all the stops to save the stars alongside Ryan Gosling’s Dr. Ryland Grace in the smash hit sci-fi movie. But Ortiz’s impact may go much further than his initial performance as everyone’s favorite rock-like alien chum. Variety has revealed that he will be submitted for Best Supporting…

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 6 Review – Requiem

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season two, episode six. Every Daredevil story has the same fundamental moral. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking Charlie Cox or Ben Affleck, a goofy Silver Age story or a gritty Frank Miller tale. The lesson of every Daredevil tale is just that no one should ever, ever get involved with Matt Murdock. Yes, Matt’s charming and passionate and committed to doing the right thing. But he will always make the worst decision at the most inopportune time, and though he me be wracked with guilt as he does it, he’ll do…

Evil Dead Burn Takes the Franchise Back to its Roots

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
One day in 1979, childhood friends Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi went to a cabin in rustic Northern Michigan to shoot a horror short. That 32-minute movie, Within the Woods, became the duo’s calling card, earning them enough funding from local business people to shoot a full length film called The Evil Dead, launching a franchise that continues to this day. Most recently, 2023’s Evil Dead Rise moved the Book of the Dead to a big city high rise, far from the franchise’s rustic home. However, the first trailer for Evil Dead Burn makes it abundantly clear that this time,…

Michael Review: A Sainted and Sanitized Michael Jackson

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
The modern musical biopic is less biography and more hagiography, usually with a great soundtrack. Bohemian Rhapsody, Elvis, and Walk the Line have no interest in telling the real story of the people who made the songs we love. Instead they exist to let the audience sing along with pop hits, to reward those who know little bits of trivia, and to ensure fans that everyone involved are very good people indeed. On those terms, Michael is very much a by-the-numbers modern musical biopic. It whisks the viewer from year to year, pausing to recreate iconic moments (e.g., debuting the…

Oscar Isaac Sheds New Light on Star Wars’ Most Controversial Line

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
As Resistance fighter Poe Dameron, Oscar Isaac had the unenviable job of delivering the line “Somehow, Palpatine returned” in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker—a desperate handwave so J.J. Abrams’ sequel trilogy-capper could have a familiar villain quickly added to the story. In the years since the movie’s release, it’s become shorthand for lazy plot contrivances, memed and mocked into oblivion. The fact that it followed an opening crawl that referenced a Fortnite event made it even worse. In a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Isaac reflected on delivering the line and revealed that it was written…

15 Video Game Endings That Made Players Regret the Journey

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
Good games are shaped by both their beginnings and their endings, but a good premise doesn’t always end at the same height. Be it due to rushed development, cut corners, or just a vision that does not align to that of the general audiences, some game endings make it feel like the entire journey was pointless. Of course, that isn’t the case for everyone, but these titles in particular left a sour taste in the minds of plenty of players. While the most frequent offenders are the games that claim ‘player choice matters,’ a badly done bossfight or final section…

The Drama’s Darkest Secret Is the One Nobody Is Talking About

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
This article contains major spoilers for The Drama. It’s always a lovely thing when a real, honest word-of-mouth hit like The Drama comes around. In a little over two weeks, the Robert Pattinson and Zendaya-led indie about the most traumatic wedding event this side of Westeros has firmly inserted itself in the pop culture mindscape, with audiences each weekend flocking to cinemas to see what all that drama is about—as well as debate what they would have done if they found themselves at such a ceremony? The discourse has been so intense around this oblique comedy from writer-director Kristoffer Borgli…

Spider-Noir Showrunner Teases More Shows from Across the Spider-Verse

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse begins with Peter Parker introducing himself to the audience and then declaring, “There’s only one Spider-Man, and you’re looking at him.” Even before he’s proven wrong by Miles Morales taking on the mantle after he dies, and even before a variety of Spider-people—including Peter B. Parker—arrive from the multiverse, he’s proven wrong. Which is, of course, the point of the Spider-Verse movies: that there are many different ways of being Spider-Man. That premise is ripe for storytelling, at least according to Oren Uziel, showrunner of the upcoming Spider-Noir series on Prime Video. “I know there are others…

The Batman 2 Will Feature Harvey Dent’s Father, But Which One?

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
The Batman: Part II already had an incredible cast before Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance joined on. In addition to returning stars Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis as Bruce Wayne, James Gordon, and Alfred Pennyworth, respectively, the film boasts the additions of Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson as Harvey and Gilda Dent. Matt Reeves‘s film not only has its primary villain but also an incredible pedigree. Although no official word has come down yet, most believe that Dance will play the father of Harvey Dent. However, who that is and what that means is a bigger question…

Avengers: Doomsday – What Happened to Mjolnir?

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
Mjolnir has become as recognizable a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the god who wields it, and the enchanted hammer has gone through almost as many ups and downs as Thor over the years. It’s been beaten, broken, sent back and forward through time, and even attracted jealousy from Thor’s new axe, Stormbreaker. After the first footage from Avengers: Doomsday emerged, it was clear that Mjolnir would be thwanging through the air once more, but if you’re confused about how Thor and Captain America can be tossing Mjolnir around in the upcoming fifth Avengers movie, you’re not alone,…

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
Deadpool has always known that he’s in a movie. Ever since the release of his first film in 2016, the Merc with a Mouth has demanded to be the center of attention, if only because he can see beyond the fourth wall. Even when teaming up with X-Force in Deadpool 2 and with Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade Wilson makes everything about him. So it’s a bit of a surprise to hear that Ryan Reynolds wants Deadpool to take a step back. Dropping by the Today Show, Reynolds admitted that he’s working on new things for Wilson, but in…

From Season 4: Harold Perrineau Talks Episode 1’s Big Reveal and the End of the Show

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
This article contains From season 4 episode 1 spoilers. “I thought the whole idea was brilliant,” From star Harold Perrineau tells Den of Geek in the days leading up to the show’s season 4 premiere. “You’d never expect that.” He’s talking, of course, about The Man in the Yellow Suit’s latest insidious move on From’s beleaguered Township. At the climax of season 3, he’d warned Jim (Eion Bailey) and Julie (Hannah Cheramy) that “knowledge comes with a cost” and ripped Jim’s throat out, but for anyone who thought the show’s most mysterious malevolent entity would take a break from his…

High School Comedy ‘Brian’ Celebrates the Awkwardness of Growing Up

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
High school is never easy. It’s especially rough for someone like Brian, who is socially awkward, riddled with panic attacks, and harboring a crush on his English teacher. That last part might not be universal, but in his directorial debut Brian, Will Ropp captures a sharply self-aware coming-of-age story where plenty of viewers will recognize themselves in a teenager searching for a rulebook on how to be normal. Written by Saturday Night Live writer Mike Scollins, the film follows Brian (Ben Wang) as he confronts his social anxiety by running for student body president, which is led by his English…

The Problem With the Mystery of Lee Cronin’s The Mummy

Max SchindlerNew DVD release
This article contains spoilers for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. What happened to Katie? Even more than the promise of supernatural horror, that question drove the marketing for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, the latest take on the classic monster. The Mummy does indeed answer the question, leaving no filmgoer mystified when they leave the theater. However, that answer comes around the two-hour mark of a 133-minute film, most of which is filled with nasty imagery. However, that may be for the best. Because while Cronin’s film delivers all the same gleeful gore that he provided in 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, the…
