Say what you will about Amazon Prime’s The Boys, but it knows how to give the people what they want. And in the case of season 2’s first full trailer, that means breathtaking, near cartoonish levels of violence.
Give the two-minute clip a look below to see what we mean.
That is…uh, a lot of brains crushed by super-powered fists. Scoring the whole thing to Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” was a shrewd choice as well but it kind of works.
The Boys season 2 is set to premiere on September 4, 2020. As evidenced by that teaser, this season will follow the titular Boys in their new lives as outlaws. Yes, keeping the super-powered individuals of the world in check is the right thing to do, but it’s not necessarily the most popular thing. As just about anyone on this site can tell you: people love their superheroes.
Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) no longer have the dubious legal cover of the CIA to continue their very important work. And if Billy Butcher is reeling from a particular parentage reveal at the end of season 1, he’s not showing it. Meanwhile, The Seven keeps up their shrewd public relations campaign as led by Homelander’s (Anthony Starr) deep dimples and dark soul.
Joining the cast for The Boys season 2 are Patton Oswalt in an unspecified role, Goran Visnjic as Alistair Adana, Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman, and most notably Aya Cash as Stormfront. Stormfront pops up in the teaser twice, each time showcasing the character’s electrical powers (but none of the Nazism…yet).
In addition to unveiling the new teaser, Amazon Prime revealed that The Boys season 2 will be getting a featured virtual panel for the streamer’s time at the Comic-Con@Home. The Boys season 2 panel begins at 3 p.m. PST on Thursday, July 23. Amazon’s description for the event reads:
Join executive producer Eric Kripke, along with series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty,Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara and Aya Cash, with moderator Aisha Tyler, for a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming second season of The Boys. Executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will also make a special appearance. Based on The New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. The even more intense, more insane Season Two finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought.
The other Amazon Prime Comic-Con@Home panels on July 23 include Truth Seekers at 12 p.m., Utopia at 1 p.m., and Upload at 2 p.m.
