Hunters Season 2 Confirmed by Amazon

Hunters Season 2 is set to continue the titular team’s Nazi-wasting ways. Amazon Studios officially made the order for a second season of the campy, alt-universe, ultraviolent crime thriller series, Hunters, stopping short of setting any production or Amazon Prime Video release windows, obviously due to the intrinsic uncertainty of the COVID era. However, the second season renewal announcement was posted with an accompanying teaser trailer bearing the era-appropriate imagery of a spinning Season 2 logo-brandishing vinyl record before building to the opening bass line of a show-familiar tune in Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer.” *record scratch* *freeze frame*You heard it…

Amazon Prime Video UK: What’s New in August 2020?

August will be a quiet month on Prime Video UK leading up to the arrival of The Boys season 2 in the first week of September, but there are still a few things to look forward to before Billy Butcher and co. get back to ridding the world of megalomaniacal superheroes and their enablers. Towards the end of August on Prime, Stargirl will be streaming for UK viewers. The DC Universe show has received strong reviews and will be back for a second season eventually. If you’re already a fan of DC’s Doom Patrol, it will make for a sweeter…

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: August 2020

There are slow months for streaming services and then there are “choose a decade-old Chris Nolan movie as a header image” slow months for streaming services. Amazon Prime’s August 2020 clearly falls into the latter camp. That’s not to say that there aren’t some interesting options arriving this month. August 1 has a few intriguing movies including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Inception, Rain Man, and even Spider-Man 3. But there aren’t many Amazon originals to speak of. Chemical Hearts, starring Lili Reinhart (Riverdale) premieres on August 20. Then on August 28, subscribers can get a sneak peek at Amazon’s…

Why You Can’t Watch HBO Max Via Roku Or Amazon

Longtime HBO subscribers were almost certainly delighted to hear earlier this year that their current HBO subscriptions would entitle them to a free upgrade to HBO Max. After all, the highly anticipated and long awaited on-demand streaming service was set to encompass not just the already rich offerings available on HBO itself (including its untouchable library of original series like The Sopranos, Game of Thrones and Veep, just to name three), but content from the many brands under the Warner Media corporate umbrella, including DC Entertainment, the TNT and TBS networks, the legendary Turner Classic Movies (TCM) library, Cartoon Network,…

Amazon Prime Video UK: What’s New in July 2020?

A new month means a new crop of streaming offerings on Prime Video UK, and July’s highlights include a second season of Amazon Original Hanna and the complete series of Mad Men to keep you busy. Newer library films include Knives Out starring Daniel Craig and his magnificently over the top accent, Countdown (that horror movie about the app that kills you in three days), Roland Emmerich’s Midway and coming of age comedy How to Build a Girl. Elsewhere on Prime Video channels, STARZPLAY has a monopoly with The Great Season 1, Ramy Season 2 and the streaming rights to…

Fallout TV Series Coming to Amazon from Westworld Creators

Amazon Studios and Bethesda have announced a Fallout TV series. The series comes from Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. It will be produced by Kilter Films. The studios first revealed the project with a cryptic teaser on Twitter before Deadline reported the details. Check out the teaser for yourself: #PleaseStandBy. @Fallout @BethesdaStudios #KilterFilms pic.twitter.com/IEDr7AkVvD— Amazon Studios (@AmazonStudios) July 2, 2020 No plot details were revealed during the announcement, so it’s unclear whether this TV series will be a straight adaptation of one of the games or a new story set in the Fallout universe. The game series has…

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: July 2020

As we get deeper into the summer, entertainment offerings are bound to start slimming – particularly in this pandemic era. Perhaps there’s no greater example of the oncoming drought than Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2020. Though the new options may be few and far between on Amazon this month, at least they pack a bit of a punch. In the case of Hanna season 2, that punch is quite literal. Esme Creed-Miles returns as the titular precocious super soldier. You can check out our review here. Beyond that, there are two intriguing Amazon original movies. The…

7500 Review: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Takes on Hijackers in Amazon Prime’s Latest Thriller

A pilot must defend the cockpit when terrorists attack during a flight from Berlin to Paris in 7500, the feature debut from German director Patrick Vollrath, which arrives on Amazon Prime this week. It’s a German, Austrian, and American co-production starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with parts in English and others in Arabic, Turkish, and German. That makes this a bit of a strange beast to begin with but add in that it’s told in real time, mostly shot on handheld and almost entirely in one location with no score and you’ve got a film that at its best is a tense…

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: June 2020

Amazon Prime’s new releases in June 2020 is fairly lacking in original material. That’s to be expected for a streaming service that focuses on quality over quantity to begin with now going through a pandemic content crunch. Standup special Gina Brillon: The Floor Is Lava, Joseph Gordon-Levitt film 7500, and Pete the Cat season 2 are the only originals arriving this month. And that’s fine as Amazon is about to be home to one of 2019’s most fun films. That’s right – Knives Out makes its debut on June 12. It might be awhile before we get to see the…

Knives Out Goes to Streaming on Amazon Prime in June

What we have here is a donut hole inside of another donut hole. And at the center of that donut is an excuse to watch Knives Out again—or for the first time if you were unfortunate enough to miss it in theaters. Indeed, Rian Johnson’s sleeper hit from 2019’s holiday season is about to make its debut on a non-VOD streaming service, with Knives Out slated to premiere on Amazon Prime on June 12. In what was for this writer’s money the most entertaining movie of 2019, Knives Out was Johnson’s loving throwback to the whodunit murder mysteries of Agatha…

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: May 2020

It’s been awhile since the world has seen a new comedy from Greg Daniels, co-creator of The Office (U.S.) and Parks and Recreation. That all changes this month with Amazon Prime’s new releases for May 2020. That’s right, leading the pack of Amazon originals on May 1 is Daniels’ Upload, a comedy about digital afterlives. That should inject a healthy dose of sci-fi “middletopia” into our lives. Also premiering in May is the second season of Amazon Prime’s twisty drama Homecoming. This season starts Janelle Monáe and premieres on May 22. After that, the rest of Amazon’s originals this month…

Best Family Movies on Amazon Prime

Amazon has thrown families a huge benefit during the coronavirus pandemic by making a lot of their children’s content (Amazon Originals and licensed shows) available for free, even for families that don’t have a Prime membership. Most of what’s there is series programming, which Amazon excels at offering. For families with Amazon Prime, however, there are definitely some family friendly movies to watch, although those are in shorter supply than the more extensive episodic programs. Many of the films that are available are classics parents will remember from their own childhoods, so if you’re trying to figure out what to…

SXSW Film Festival Moving to Amazon Prime

The cancellation of the SXSW in Austin, Texas last month—an intersection of festivals and conferences in film, music, and technology—was one of the first major social upheavals caused by the coronavirus pandemic in North America. It of course would not be the last. However, as prudent a decision as it was by the city of Austin to prevent 400,000 global revelers to descend upon their city, there is no denying the heartbreak of denying hundreds of independent filmmakers, many of them first-timers, their moment of triumph. That’s why it’s a ray of good news that SXSW and Amazon Prime Video…

New on Amazon Prime: James Bond Movies Arrive for April

James Bond fans won’t have to experience any serious absence of their favorite secret agent even though 007’s new thriller, No Time to Die, has had its release delayed by the coronavirus pandemic from this month to November. Fortunately, in addition to Pluto TV’s 24/7 Bond channel (which offers up 18 films with limited commercials), Amazon Prime in the US is now making 21 Bond movies — basically everything up until the current Daniel Craig era — available starting April 1, all in 4K Ultra-High Definition. There’s currently no word on whether or not Amazon UK will follow suit. The…
