UK Cinemas Slam Disney After Mulan Streaming Announcement

UK venues have been left ‘bewildered’ after Disney reversed a decision to release its live-action Mulan movie in the country’s struggling cinemas, confirming during a 3Q earnings call this week that it will now go straight to streaming service Disney+ for a premium price on 4th September. UK Cinemas Get Covid-19 Safety Guidelines Ahead of Reopening

Following the UK government’s go-ahead to start reopening cinemas from 4th July, a 29-page document called ‘Cinemas – keeping workers and customers safe during Covid-19’ has been published detailing safety guidelines that should be adhered to in England during the pandemic. The UK Cinema Association and the Department for Culture Media and Sport are behind the new guidelines, with help from the BFI Screen Sector Task Force, the Independent Cinema Office, Public Health England and the Health and Safety Executive. Odeon and Cineworld Close All UK & Ireland Cinemas

Both Odeon and Cineworld have announced that all of their cinemas in the UK and Ireland, including Picturehouse venues, will be closed until further notice. The move to shutter the venues is in response to the growing coronavirus pandemic. The UK has confirmed 1,543 cases of the virus so far, and 55 people have died.
