Star Wars Deepfake Casts Star Trek’s William Shatner as Luke Skywalker

Hello, and welcome to yet another edition of “looking at the internet’s constant supply of disturbing deepfakes and rating them according to both their objective skill and existential horrors.” Today’s offering is Star Wars-themed, and d’you know what? Not sure we’ve ever covered a Star Wars deepfake before, so this will be a unique entry into the Den of Geek library. It’s a very silly library. We don’t enforce a ‘no talking’ rule, so feel free to yell in the comments as standard. “What if a young William Shatner had been cast as Luke Skywalker?” certainly isn’t a question we…

Avengers: Endgame Deepfake Casts Nicolas Cage as Captain America

Hello, and welcome to another 5-second distraction from the madness of 2020 ‘what if?’ moment of retrospection here at Den of Geek, where we occasionally take a look at the deepfakes of YouTube and Reddit and then try not to judge their quality too severely. Instead, we tend to ponder how they make us feel on an existential level, and a deepfake starring Mr. Nicolas Cage as Captain America certainly has us reflecting on Marvel’s unseen multiverse, and what could have been. This isn’t the best deepfake we’ve seen so far this year (that would probably be this one) and…

The Boys: Chris Evans Homelander Deepfake Has Internet Conflicted

This article contains spoilers for The Boys Season 2, Snowpiercer and Knives Out. A new deepfake that shows us what Chris Evans would look like as Homelander over on Amazon’s smash hit series The Boys has prompted a discussion online about whether the Captain America star would be able to nail the villainous role or not. Evans, who played Steve Rogers across three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has certainly been no stranger to playing against type in the past. Last year, we saw him as the murderous Ransom Drysdale in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, and he was almost…

Avengers Deepfake Casts John Krasinski as Captain America

John Krasinski and his wife Emily Blunt both lost out on major Avengers roles back when the MCU was in its infancy. Blunt was originally Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau’s pick for the part of Black Widow, before she had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts and Scarlett Johansson ended up snatching it from her grasp, and Marvel was keen to compare Krasinski with its other Captain America: The First Avenger choice, Chris Evans, before making a firm casting decision for Steve Rogers. After seeing Krasinski audition, Evans came out on top, and the rest was history, but…

Marvel’s Avengers Deepfake Brings MCU Actors to the Game

Marvel’s Avengers is this year’s big superhero extravaganza, and it’s already shaping up to be a bit polarizing. After a beta period that received a bit of a lukewarm reception, publisher Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics have only made matters worse by announcing that Spider-Man is coming to game…but only on the PlayStation versions of the game. In case you don’t know, these types of exclusivity deals mean that players on other platforms will be forced to pay the same amount for the game for less content. But even before anyone had gotten their hands on the game or…

Wizard of Oz Deepfake Casts Avengers

Professor Marvel’s crystal ball probably didn’t predict that the Avengers could go on to star in The Wizard of Oz, but a deepfake called The Avengers of Oz, posted back in March by NextFace, manages to get the job done. The clip, which re-imagines the classic 1939 musical fantasy film using deepfake tech, casts Tom Holland as Dorothy, Robert Downey Jr as Scarecrow, Chris Pratt as Tin-Man and Chris Hemsworth as the Cowardly Lion, roles that were originally played by Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley and Bert Lahr respectively. You can watch The Avengers of Oz below, but it…
