Evel Knievel Series with Milo Ventimiglia Scrapped by USA Network due to Pandemic

The gravity-abused life of iconic stuntman Evel Knievel (1938-2007) was set to be chronicled by USA Network, which last year ordered a limited series, titled Evel, with Milo Ventimiglia tapped to star as the iconic daredevil. However, the world has obviously experienced significant changes since those plans were first spun, and it seems that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused Evel to wipe out from the cable channel’s production slate. USA Network has scrapped Evel, according to THR. The project, which was picked up to series in September 2019, saw its New Mexico production—which was finishing location prep and was on…

The Real Story of Netflix’s Wasp Network – Who Were the Cuban Five?

Wasp Network, written and directed by Olivier Assayas based on the book The Last Soldiers of the Cold War by Fernando Morais, has landed on Netflix. It stars Penélope Cruz, Edgar Ramírez, Gael García Bernal and Ana de Armas and is based on the true story of the ‘Cuban Five’ (aka Miami Five) who were arrested and imprisoned in the USA as spies in the late ‘90s. The five were Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González, though Wasp Network focuses attention primarily on René González and Gerardo Hernández of the five.  They were Cubans who…

Lost: Damon Lindelof Reveals Behind the Scenes Battles With Network

Lost showrunner Damon Lindelof took a lot of flack from both critics and fans of the mystery drama series during its six seasons on the air, culminating in an all-out online rage-a-thon after it bowed in 2010 with a divisive finale. Generally, it’s felt the screenwriter has ‘redeemed’ himself over the last six years on TV, turning in three acclaimed seasons of The Leftovers with Tom Perrotta, and one hell of a spectacular spin on Watchmen during the final months of 2019. Now that he’s got some perspective, it seems it’s a little easier for Lindelof to look back on…

Wasp Network Review

It’s always difficult to watch a director end a streak of excellent, or at least interesting, movies with one that is just flat out disappointing. After a run of more than a decade that included acclaimed, awarded, and frequently discussed films like Summer Hours, Clouds of Sils Maria, Carlos, and Personal Shopper, French writer-director Olivier Assayas has come up way short with his new film, Wasp Network. And it’s a damn shame too, because Assayas has assembled a fine cast led by Penelope Cruz, Gael Garcia Bernal, Edgar Ramirez and Ana de Armas, and there are flashes of greatness and…

Wasp Network

René González (Edgar Ramírez) is a Cuban pilot who leaves his wife (Penelope Cruz) and young daughter behind in the communist island nation to defect to the United States and begin a new life of freedom in the early 1990s. But René is not the upstart American striver he appears to be. Joining forces with a group of Cuban exiles in South Florida known as the Wasp Network — led by undercover operative Manuel Viramontez a.k.a. Gerardo Hernandez (Gaël García Bernal) — he becomes part of a pro-Castro spy ring tasked with observing and infiltrating Cuban-American terror groups intent upon…

Quentin Tarantino Calls The Social Network the Best Movie of the 2010s

A million dollars isn’t cool anymore. You know what’s cool? A seal of approval from Quentin Tarantino. That’s what’s cool. It’s also what The Social Network received nearly 10 years after its release. Making a splash at the box office—if not with Oscar voters—the arguably first major film about the millennial generation was a pop culture touchstone in 2010 that’s aged like fine wine. With its haunting visuals masterminded by director David Fincher, razor sharp dialogue from Aaron Sorkin, and moody score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Social Network remains a potent work, and clearly a favorite for…
