Review: Elementary Season 1: TV Show

Elementary Season 1

Elementary Season 1 – the modern day Sherlock Homes remake stars Jonny Lee Miller as detective Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson. Elementary is a drama about a crime-solving duo, Holmes and Watson that cracks the NYPD’s most difficult cases.

Following his disgraced departure from Mi6 in London and a light stint in rehab, eccentric Sherlock find himself at home in Manhattan where his forced to live with a sober companion, Dr. Watson by his wealthy father – Sherlock’s worst nightmare. A successful surgeon until she losses a patient along with her license three years prior – Watson sees her new job as an opportunity get back in touch with helping people, as well as paying for the loss she resulted in.

However, the eccentric and relentless Sherlock is nothing like her previous clients. Whist Watson tries to help Sherlock with his addiction issues, Sherlock informs Watson that her powers of persuasion won’t work on him. He also informs her that he has his own form of rehab regime – resuming his work as a police consultant in New York City. Watson feels she has no choice but to accompany Sherlock. Sherlock soon realises that she has a knack for investigative work due to her extensive medical background. Sherlock’s police contact, Captain Thomas Gregson, knows from previous experience working with Scotland Yard that Sherlock is great at closing cases, and welcomes him as part of the police force as a consultant. With the new brilliance of Sherlock Holmes now running free in New York solving crime, it’s simple deduction that he’s going to need someone to keep him in-line, and it’s elementary that it’s a job for Joan Watson.

The show is fun and exciting with a great knack for deductive police work. Jonny Lee Miller plays Sherlock Holmes perfectly and his mannerisms are just as I would think Sherlock would have been back in the day. The design and set is minimal but I do like the true homage to the original ideals of Sherlock’s home life.

If you have a few night free it’s a fantastic series and very involving – Sherlock is great. The Pod Food and Xmarx crew got together for most of the series. There was the few nights with John from VIZOO.

9 out of 10 bananas. 22 episodes – 6 disc DVD set box.
